Day 20

Day 20 - September 29 - It’s Saturday again. That means less traffic and less people on the sidewalks…the weekend security guard on duty at the orphanage – so we have to use a different door because he keeps all but one door locked…wedding couples taking pictures at the hotel…and fireworks at night. It seems like there are people setting off firecrackers and fireworks every Saturday night. We’re not sure if it’s a tradition or just something fun to do, but it happens.

We saw Veeka this morning and everything went really well. One thing that was very exciting is that Caleb and Papa went to the bathroom and left Mama and Veeka playing for a few minutes. Usually she gets sad and cries when Papa leaves, but this time she told Papa and Caleb “bye” and kept on playing. That was a huge step.

The snack we brought for Veeka today was a plastic bowl full of cheerios. She decided it was really fun to share them with Caleb. He was playing by himself about 25 ft. away from us and she would yell “Calum.” He would come and get a cheerio from her, and before he could run back to where he was playing, she would yell his name again and he would come back and get another cheerio. This lasted for over 5 minutes and she loved it. While we were outside it started to rain, so we spent the last 30 minutes of our visit inside playing with a ball and on a slide that is inside.

Precious that she's caught on to Caleb's name...and he's such a sweetheart for being patient and indulging her when she kept calling him back over to share. They are going to be such great friends!

We're praying for a good end to the trip, and safe travel home...soon!
